Patricia will discuss ways that schools can enable pupils with dyscalculia to achieve basic numeracy.

The seminar will have two main themes:

  • How to assess pupils to find out what they can do, as well as identifying key difficulties in numeracy.
  • How to use structured, understanding based, multi-sensory teaching methods.

Other areas that need to be considered are underlying skills such as visual perception, language, spatial ability and emotional factors.

Part of the day will be devoted to interactive sessions in which participants try some activities that help to engage pupils in learning.

There will be suggestions for ways in which progress can be measured in the classroom.
